Ola 2022. Despite what might have been the toughest year for many of us, we all must soldier on to greater heights 🚀🙏. Welcome back to another edition of Business News for Kids (BNFK for short; genius isn’t it? 🤯).
Busy business this week 💼
Apple became the world’s first company to hit $3 Trillion market cap. It took it 40+ years to hit $1 Trillion in 2018, 2 years to hit $2 Trillion in 2020, And just 1.5 years to hit $3 Trillion 😱😱😱. Checkout a cool graph of the most valuable tech companies here.
All this while India 🇮🇳 became a $3 Trillion economy! Does that mean Apple is worth all of India? Not at all. Market cap vs. an Economy are entirely different things. While market cap somewhat represents the value of the company (which is a multiple of its revenue or profits), the size of an economy (somewhat) represents all of the revenue generated in a country. If we were to compare apple to apple 🤣, India’s “market cap” or say valuation could be a cool $600 Trillion - after all a 20x multiple on revenue for one of the world’s fastest growing economies is quite realisable 🤔.
Following in the footsteps of Nike, fashion clothing 👗 brand H&M may open its Metaverse store in the virtual world CEEK City.
Spot the robot 🤖 (you’d know it if you’ve been an early reader) from Hyundai owned Boston Dynamic will join H&M in the metaverse, though in a whole different way. Discuss this article with a big person to know how.
And Shanghai joins Seoul in becoming only the second real world city to commit to build its very own metaverse. They’ve even included it in their official 5 year building 🏬 plans 🚀.
Wait, what is..
Market Cap: Total value of the shares of a company; Market cap = Share Price x No. of Shares Issued. Geek out here.
Economy: An economy is an area, or a region, where production and consumption of goods and services takes place. The Economy of a country therefore includes ALL the money made and transacted for all of the goods and services produced in that region. In some ways, the resulting revenue is called the GDP 👇.
Multiple: Pretty much like in math 🤷 multiples are well multiples, except that they indicate the worth or performance of a company. They are arrived at by dividing important metrics.. for e.g. Price to Earnings ratio is arrived at by dividing Price per Share with Earning per Share. Read this to know how multiples are used to measure how well companies are doing.
Woah 😱 Weird 🥴?
A colour changing car 😱😱😱. BMW showed off it’s rad colour changing iX Flow SUV at the Consumer Electronics Show. Wish we can ride such cars by 2030. 👏
Inspiring business people to know 🙏
Meet Helena Helmersson, our inspiring business person of the week.
Ms.Helmersson is the first female CEO of fashion clothing brand H&M 🙇 - also called - Hennes & Mauritz. Joining them way back in 1997, she rose up the ranks 🚀 from a production manager at H&M facilities in Bangladesh & Hong Kong to leading their sustainability initiatives 🌳 and then being designated H&M’s COO (Chief Operating Officer) before taking over the all important role of CEO. Ask mom, dad or a big person the difference between COO and CEO. 🤷

Mental models.. whaaaat! 🤯
My dad insisted we put this section in here, even though I protested saying its going to be a while before kids need to apply mental models. Mental models are nothing but ways of thinking, you can use as a framework, to take decisions or solve problems. Who knows, they might just be useful!
The Resolutions Mental Model: Well its that time of the year, and so we have another made-by-us model.. and this one is inspired by our super smart sis/niece.
In order to 'do', we first must Resolve to do 🤯. Isn't it? Resolve = decide firmly on a course of action 😱. If applied well, setting resolutions is one of the greatest ways to achieving our goals. Sometimes just visualising or making our goals tangible e.g. writing them down, makes our goal seem much more real.. and hence achievable. So go on and write those resolutions. 🏃🏃🏃
Tech, products, toys ++ 🤖
