Busy business this week 💼
As of January 2019, more than 128 million pieces of debris smaller than 1 cm (0.4 in) were orbiting Earth 😱! Each of these poses serious risk to Space Exploration & Space Tourism. Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder (he was the tech brains 🧠 to Steve Jobs), just started a much needed space junk cleaning startup called Privateer. Godspeed to them. Find out more in this video.
Talking of space tourism, here is what we call proper Space Tourism! SpaceX sent Four civilians in full space ORBIT for 3 days (not flying into some-what-space for 3 seconds) 😱. The mission called Inspiration 4, was paid for by a Mr Isaacman, a billionaire, who invited 3 people with inspirational stories to accompany him to space. 👏👏👏
Back on earth 🌎, Amazon raised minimum wage to $18 per hour 👏. It may not seem like a lot, but working 10 hours a day for 25 days in a month could earn workers $50,000+ per annum. It’s toughest competition Walmart, pays $16.40 per hour.
And in India, EV scooter start-up Ola inaugurated an all women run factory. 👏 Cool right? “Enabling women into the economy not just improves their lives but of their families too. Studies show that providing women equality in labour staff can raise India’s GDP by 27%” - Ola Electric 😱 🚀.
And all the way in Australia🇦🇺… a global giant is born - Canva raised $200 million, at a $40 billion valuation… making it the 5th most valuable startup in the whole world! What’s interesting is its founders have pledged to give away 30% of the entire company 😱.
Wait, what is..
Minimum Wage: Minimum Wage is the minimum amount of money that workers can get paid. Many countries specify this minimum wage 👏.
Bootstrapped (useful later): When you build a company without taking any money from investors 🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️.
Woah 😱 Weird 🥴
Woolly Mammoths 🦣 could walk the Earth again 😱!! Start-up named Colossal plans to bring back Mammoths by 2027, using gene editing technology CRISPR. While the project is costing $15 million 💰, they’re not really bringing the ‘100% original’ Mammoth, but replacing some of the DNA with ones from Asian elephants 🐘. They ought to have learnt want happens if we mess with nature!! #JurassicPark🦖 😅 🦕
Inspiring business people to know 🙏
It’s the babies again! Meet the first 5 Business Babies 🤣.
Its 2184, babies run the world. They took over because us big people were simply messing it up. They've spawned Earth into not just the Universe's happiest civilisation, but also the Universe's biggest business empire.. spanning Galaxies.. spewing kindness, equality and caring for all.. humans and aliens alike. And to think it all started by them reading BNFK. Freaky.
BNFK special NFTs are now on sale and you can buy them here.
Stocks, stonks and.. ⚡️
Fintech biggie Intuit, that runs popular accounting and small business softwares, bought out bootstrapped email marketing company Mailchimp for.. wait for it.. $12 billion 🤯🤯🤯 in a part cash, part stock deal.. making it the largest ever acquisition of a bootstrapped company. 😎
Mental models.. whaaaat! 🤯
My dad insisted we put this section in here, even though I protested saying its going to be a while before kids need to apply mental models. Mental models are nothing but ways of thinking, you can use as a framework, to take decisions or solve problems. Who knows, they might just be useful!
Consumer 🛍 or Creator 🧑🎨 ? A mental model for life choices. A question we all must ask ourselves. Do we want to be Consumers or Creators?
If we are only consumers what happens? A consumer spends money and.. pays it.. to the Creator that created the product that was consumed 😱. Creators EARN 💰, Consumers BURN (SPEND) 💸. In essence, if we can, we must strive to be creators. 🔨🔨🔨
