Busy business this week 💼
Blue Origin, the rocket company founded by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, will soon start bidding on tickets for a ride 🐎 to Space 🚀. The price expected for a seat is not yet known, but Virgin Galactic, another space tourism company has priced flights at $250,000 per seat!💰Remember how Space Tourism is likely to have a $3bn market size by 2030?
Verizon, the US telecom giant, that had purchased early internet behemoths Yahoo and AOL for about $10 billion, decided to sell them off to a private equity company Apollo Global Management for $5 billion. In their heydays the two companies were valued in excess of $300 billion 🤯
Japan opened its first e-Sports Gym. Gamers and eSports players can get professional train to improve their skills to compete with the best. 🤺 Did you know FIFA & gaming company EA Sports run the FIFA eWorld Cup where players compete on Xbox & Playstation consoles to win a game of football?⚽️
Bank of England governor, Andrew Bailey, warned cryptocurrency investors to be prepared to lose all their money 😅🤯 - the warning covered Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dodgecoin or any other cryptocurrency.
There is an epic anti-trust battle brewing between Epic Games 🎮, the maker of Fortnite and phone giant Apple 🍎. Epic has filed a lawsuit saying Apple does not allow fair competition, and is taking undue advantage of its monopoly, over its App Store. Epic recently claimed that Apple makes a 78% profit from it’s App Store business, without doing very much in return. Is making that much profit a bad thing? Discuss with Mom or a big person at home.
Wait, what is..
Spacefaring: A spacefaring civilisation is a world whose people have managed to explore Space. Humans became a space faring civilisation on 12 April 1961 when Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person 👨🚀 to reach Space. 🚀
Market size: Market size is nothing but the overall Revenue every company makes or can potentially make ‘all together’ for a particular industry or product.
Private Equity: Private Equity companies are somewhat like Venture Capitalists that we spoke about in Edition #3, except while Venture Capitalists typically support Startups and private companies, Private Equity players can buy a private or public company of any size or stage. Discuss with Mom.
Anti-trust: This one is super confusing, but hey we’re here just for that. Whenever you hear the term anti-trust, know that what they really mean is anti-competition. Now what is anti-competition? Essentially, any action, practise or move that reduces competition is called anti-competition. For e.g. because Apple owns and runs its App Store for iOS apps, and does not allow anyone else to run an App Store for iOS apps, it is an anti-competitive practise. Or that’s what Epic is trying to prove. Anti-competition is a complex topic. Discuss with Mom or Dad or a big person at home - whoever dare dive into the topic. 🧑🏫

Woah 😱 Weird 🥴
A 10-storey, 23 ton rocket is hurtling back to Earth in an uncontrolled decent! 🚀☄️ The booster of Chinese rocket Long March 5B that was used to send parts of a new space station to space, will crash land this weekend somewhere on Earth 🌎. It’s not unusual for Space crafts 🛰 to drop back to Earth, but these are mostly controlled, i.e. they drop in a pre-designated area. In this instance though, the drop is uncontrolled i.e. the place it will drop at, is unknown and.. it’s the largest ever object to fall back in this uncontrolled manner. 🤷
Wherever the 👆rocket crashes, lets hope its not on this👇 bridge. Portugal just opened the longest pedestrian suspension bridge. The 516 Arouca Bridge is suspended 574 feet above the Paiva River and is 1,693 feet or more than half a kilometre long 😱. How do you think this bridge 🌉 will impact Tourism in Portugal? Discuss with Dad or a big person at home.
Inspiring business people to know 🙏
Meet Elon Musk, our inspiring business person of this week.
Even though Elon has been raising prices of his promised cheap EV car, he’s doing a whole lot for humanity. And that’s why he makes it to our inspiring business person of the week. Elon Musk is the co-founder of advanced Electric Vehicle maker Tesla 🚙, space company SpaceX 🚀, tunnelling company Boring 🚇 AND neuroscience company Neuralink 🧠 (remember the video game playing monkey from Edition #3?). Wondering how he runs so many companies that are so so innovative? We’re wondering too 😅; but that he does, is what makes him special.
Stocks, stonks and.. ⚡️
Indian Robotics company, GreyOrange is trying to raise $600 million through a US listing 🤖. With a huge growth in warehouse automation, they are sure competing in an interesting market.
Beyond Meat, maker of plant 🥬 based protein products that mimic real meat products, reported lower than expected Revenue and sadly made a bigger loss than anticipated. The stock is down over 30% compared to 6 months ago and tanked ~7% on the day they shared this news. We recently grabbed a Beyond Meat ‘sausage’ breakfast sandwich 🍔 and there was no way we could tell that it wasn’t meat! 🍖
Coursera, an education technology company (remember EdTech?) grew Revenue 64% but its stock price dropped over 7%. Since its IPO earlier this year, their stock price has dropped a massive 37% 😰 Read more here.

Mental models.. whaaaat! 🤯
My dad insisted we put this section in here, even though I protested saying its going to be a while before kids need to apply mental models. Mental models are nothing but ways of thinking, you can use as a framework, to take decisions or solve problems. Who knows, they might just be useful!
The Two Types
Principle
🧐 - This one is an original. I.e. a mental model thought up entirely by us 🤷.
There are
two types
of people in the world.
Those that
internalise
😇 and those that
externalise
😞
. Those that externalise, always blame an external factor for the occurrence of an event or result. While those that Internalise, know that the result of every event is in their control. 💪
So the next time you're wanting to get something done, and face a ton of external challenges, know that you and you alone can solve for, and impact, the result. So go ahead and dive in to solving it with all your might.🦸
We'll talk about another original model in our next edition, the One Step Model.
Tech, products, toys ++ 🤖
Meet Scout - a tiny robot to guard your home. Its almost as if a beetle 🪲 turned itself into a car! 🚓 Scout will roam around your house recording any movement, and guess what.. it’ll even follow and chase the source 🚣
Hugely popular MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) PUBG or Player Unknown Battlegrounds 🪖is relaunching in India after being banned last year. The South Korean maker of the game announced that it would launch the game as Battlegrounds Mobile India. Dad can’t wait to play it 🎮 but says I’m still too young 😌. If you’re 13 & over ask Mom or a big person at home before trying it out. 🥷
